Work described is performed in accordance with accepted practices. Assists as requested with orientation and training of new crew members. Employee will act as crew leader when requested by Landscape Technician . Employee is expected to work in compliance with shop policies and without prompting and reminding to complete routine duties. Duty percentages may be increased or decreased by Landscape Technician, depending on seasonal needs, present work demands or skills exhibited by employee. Work is reviewed daily by immediate supervisor. Employee is expected to show cooperation with co-workers and supervisors and to promote shop morale, contributing to smooth work flow within the department. Must maintain an open communication with shop supervisors. Employee is expected to attend workshops, seminars and conferences as made available by Landscape Technician in order to stay current with techniques, procedures and safety measures required regarding horticultural work and equipment used. Job responsibilities range from turf growth control, grounds maintenance tasks, to new landscape construction and installation. Performance is reviewed daily by employees supervisor for the finished product and awareness of safety procedures. Minimum Education An amount sufficient to enable an incumbent to read, write and communicate English effectively. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. Minimum Experience Six months of experience in equipment operation and a valid Kansas Drivers License at the time of appointment. Knowledge, skills and abilities Knowledge of traffic regulations and the practices followed in the care, routine maintenance and safe operation of equipment used. Knowledge of operation of motor equipment sufficient to detect abnormal operation. Knowledge of work related agency operations, safety standards and procedures. Ability to operate light to heavy construction and maintenance equipment. Ability to make minor repairs as well as perform preventative maintenance and servicing of equipment operated. Ability to perform manual labor in projects related to the operation of motorized equipment and to the erection of signs, snow fences and guard rails. Ability to build and maintain effective professional and courteous interpersonal relationships with a diverse constituency of faculty, staff and students. Ability to acquire and retain an appropriate operators license with required endorsements. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
