General busy clinical environment including office, operating room, and hospital including inpatient floors. 1. Provides surgical first assisting during orthopedic surgery and post operative care that may include dressing changes and daily in-patient rounds.2. Assists in providing care to inpatients assigned to him/her including performing comprehensive and problem focused history and physical exams, interpret and correlate laboratory and diagnostic procedures. Interpret and correlate subjective and objective data to formulate a differential diagnose and establish a working diagnosis. Formulate a treatment plan for Orthopedic problems within scope of practice. Implement therapeutic intervention for specific conditions when appropriate. Exercise judgment on problems requiring consultation, referral or evaluation by the supervision Orthopedic surgeon or other health care professional. 3. Provides pre-and post-operative patient education to patients and their families4. Manages discharge of inpatients with appropriate disposition, follow-up planning, adjunctive therapy management and education.5. Obtains medical history, perform physical examination, complete diagnostic evaluation, develop and implement plan of care and insures proper follow up for medical office visits.6. Responds to telephone inquiries of patients and provide appropriate medical care. 7. Provides follow-up and health maintenance care including the appropriate adjustment of medications in accordance with established protocols or in response to specific instructions from the Orthopedic Physician. 8. Completes appropriate documentation of all evaluation, care, and services rendered in the medical record in accordance with hospital, local, state and national guidelines.9. Performs other duties as assigned. May require standing for periods of up to 3 to 5 hours. May require frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, and grasping. Requires lifting and carrying up to 35 lbs. May also require pushing or pulling up to 35 lbs. Job requires full range of body motion, with occasional twisting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, and reaching. Job may require reaching overhead. Job requires ability to handle and lift patients. Eye-hand coordination, and finger and manual dexterity are required. Requires corrected hearing and vision to a normal range. Job requires working under stressful conditions and/or irregular hours. Some exposure to communicable diseases, sharps, and hazardous material is anticipated. Job requires potential exposure to body fluids and radiation. Requires the ability to distinguish letters and symbols. Use of office equipment such as telephones, computer, fax machines, copying machines, and intercom may be required. Repetitive movements such as writing are required.
How to Apply:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Advanced knowledge of and experience utilizing a personal computer. Advanced word processing skills required. Knowledge of physician electronic medical record documentation desired. Knowledge of orthopedic disorders and treatments. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands. Knowledge of orthopedic casting procedures desired. Education: Graduation of an accredited Physician Assistant program required. Certification by NCCPA. Licensure or eligible for licensing as a Physicians Assistant in the state of Kansas. Experience: Two to five years of Orthopedic experience preferred. Certification/Licensure: Kansas licensed and certified PA. Code Blue Training: BCLS
