GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Staff Development Nurse devises and helps provide education that reinforces the various skill sets of associates in the communities. The Staff Development Nurse conducts and oversees an ongoing system of education for members of the communities staff with a focus on professional development. Staff Development will provide direct care for their patients and residents on an ongoing basis. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Adheres to the policies, operating procedures, the Mission and Core Values of Omega Senior Living; Supports, conducts and oversees the ongoing system of education for all staff members, with a focus on professional development; Develop and conduct an orientation program for new, rehired and contract employees; conduct or coordinate new employee job training and CPR training; Provides training and education to the community on an ongoing basis with classroom, in-service, web based training, and situation-specific training; Track process of associates training and insure trainings are completed timely; Participates in the hiring process for all staff; Pinpoints basic competencies, identifies appropriate preceptors; Ensures that mandatory education is delivered and collaborates with all departments to facilitate safety training; Maintains associate vaccination records (TB, Flu, Hep B and Pneumonia ) track associates injuries and monitor associates illnesses; Participates in department quality improvement activities; Assists in keeping the environment safe for associates to reduce the occurrence of Workers Compensation claims by appropriately evaluating resident transfer and mobility needs and involving therapy services as indicated; Shares on-call and manager on duty responsibilities/shifts as required; Assist with schedule coordination; Stay up to date regarding plans of correction, follow up to ensure that plans have been completed; Assist with building tours for potential residents; Collaborate with local colleges to recruit new talent (CNA, CMA, LPN and RN) to build staffing needs; Able to conduct CPR instruction and track training for new associates and established associates when time to renew Work nursing shifts when short staffed or otherwise required; Ensure that the educational curriculum meets or exceeds state, federal and accreditation requirements; plan and conduct state and federally required in-service programs. EDUCATION: Current license as a RN; Current CPR certification as required by state regulatory agency. EXPERIENCE: RN license in good standing with the state and current CPR certification; Previous direct care experience in a long term care healthcare care environment; The Staff Development Coordinator should have previous supervisory experience; Previous experience in adult education and training preferred; Must have advanced training in healthcare procedures; Knowledgeable of general, rehabilitative and restorative nursing and medical practices, procedures, laws, regulations and guidelines governing long-term healthcare; Good communication and leadership skills; Caring bedside manner and positive attitude toward the elderly; Desire to learn new skills and ability to use an electronic medical record; Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment; Data entry skills, experience with Microsoft programs and healthcare software a plus.
