Quick Technical Certificate Enables Single Mother to Obtain Gainful Employment
Maria came to the American Job Center seeking training in the aviation industry as a CNC Operator. She had recently been laid off from her job in aviation due to the pandemic and was receiving unemployment compensation. Maria wanted to stay in the aviation industry, however, she did not have a credential to document her skills. She had completed her GED but had no post-secondary education or training certificates. Maria was seeking a credential in aviation that could also transition to the advanced manufacturing industry providing more opportunities for gainful employment to support her family of three.
Through American Job Center services she explored occupational skills training opportunities. Maria decided on the CNC Operator Technical Certificate at a local technical school. Completing training quickly to return to the workforce as soon as possible was imperative to Maria in order to be able to support her family.
Maria successfully completed her training and obtained her CNC Operator Certification allowing her to obtain employment at a local aviation company soon after. Maria’s full-time employment pays $20.17 per hour with benefits enabling her to successfully provide for her family.
