Single Mother with Multiple Employment Barriers Enters the Healthcare Field

Faun came into the WFC in June 2022. A single mother of two young children, she had multiple barriers including low income, poor employment history, and low education. She had an interest in the Health Care industry but lacked the financial resources to pay for costs associated with training.

Faun completed all requirements needed to receive occupation skills training assistance through the United Way PCA program. She needed flexible training hours due to childcare availability and was able to enroll online in a certified nurse aide program through We Care Online.

Faun successfully completed the coursework and her clinical at Sandpiper Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was offered full-time employment at Sandpiper prior to her state testing date working 38-46 hours a week, at $14 an hour, with full benefits. She was to receive a $1.00 increase upon passing the state exam in August of 2022.
