Troubled Business Owner Highlights Previous Work History to Gain Employment in Aerospace
Workforce Challenge:
Jeremy was self-employed as the Owner and Operator of ICT Towing and Recovery since October of 2005. On 11/2022, he was involved in an accident that totaled his only company vehicle; Jeremy was forced to shutter his business as he lacked funds for the repairs or a new tow truck.
Jeremy had the same job for the past 17 years and was also developing of carpal tunnel symptoms; he worried that employers would not give him an opportunity.
Workforce Solution:
The Workforce Professional (WP) reviewed Jeremy's work history reminding him of his experience working as an Assembly Worker in aerospace at Raytheon Aircraft, along with his mechanical history from working at Firestone, and at G & L Garage as a Technician. WP provided Jeremy with information on medical resources through the United Way so he could address his carpal tunnel syndrome, advising him that his health takes top priority.
WP then suggested that Jeremy look into companies such as Textron, Spirit, and other aerospace companies and helped him sign up for both the Work Keys Curriculum and the Work Keys Test.
WP and Jeremy tailored his resume, highlighting his management and mechanical skills. Confident with his new resume, Jeremy began completing online applications on his own.
Jeremy completed his Work Keys test on 03/27/2023 at the Workforce Center earning a Platinum Certificate.
Outcomes/Benefits:
Jeremy was hired on at Textron Aviation 03/27/2023 as an Assembler, earning $22.40 per hour with full benefits. He emailed WP of this result and stated that he was very appreciative of the WP's help and informed WP he will be recommending WP to others needing assistance.
