Veteran Finds New Path Forward Through Digital Skills

Gerald, a disabled Air Force veteran, came to the Workforce Center after a knee surgery limited his mobility and prevented him from continuing his job as a restaurant host. Looking for a fresh start, he took advantage of Workforce Center services to build his digital and job search skills.

After receiving resume assistance and completing several digital skills workshops, Gerald earned a free laptop through the Older Kansans Employment Program. After connecting with Budget Rental at a multi-employer job fair, he received one-on-one support learning how to navigate email and complete the online application

With continued support at the Workforce Center, Gerald successfully completed his application and onboarding paperwork and was hired part-time as an airport shuttle driver with Budget Rental. His journey highlights how determination, combined with the right support and training, can help him find a new path forward.
