Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA)

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) is federal legislation designed to strengthen and improve the nation's public workforce system and help get Americans, including youth and those with significant barriers to employment, into high-quality jobs and careers and help employers hire and retain skilled workers.

 

The Workforce Centers of South Central Kansas provide access to the following WIOA programs

Program

WIOA Adult

WIOA Dislocated Worker

WIOA Youth

 

Who is eligible:

 

18 years and Older

 

U.S. Citizen or Authorized to Work Without Restriction

 

Compliant with Selective Service requirements, as applicable (Males born after 12/31/1959)

 

Be in need of individualized career services in order to obtain or retain employment


Meet one of the Priority Categories listed below:

  • Veteran 
    Low Income
  • Receiving Public Assistance  (SNAP, TANF, SSI, etc)
  • Homeless
  • Individual with a disability      and low income 
  • Basic Skills Deficient

 

 

18 years and Older

 

U.S. Citizen or Authorized to Work Without Restriction

 

Compliant with Selective Service requirements, as applicable (Males born after 12/31/1959)

 

Has been terminated or laid off, received a notice of termination or layoff from employment, and is eligible for Unemployment Compensation

 

 

16-24 years old who is not attending school

 

U.S. Citizen or Authorized to Work Without Restriction

 

Have one of the educational or employment barriers listed below:

  • School Dropout
  • Youth who is within the age of compulsory school attendance, but has not attended school for most of the school year
  • English Language Learner or Basic Skills Deficient
  • Juvenile or subject to the adult justice system
  • Homeless
  • Pregnant or Parenting
  • Disabled
  • Low-Income and needs assistance to complete an educational program or to secure or hold employment

Federal Resources

DOL, in coordination with the U.S. Departments of Education (ED) and Health and Human Services (HHS), is working diligently to ensure that states, local areas, other grantees, and stakeholders are prepared for implementation of WIOA.
